In western society the dominance of the medical system is robbing women of their power and choice in birth.? The vast majority of women give birth in a hospital setting, surrounded by strangers.? They experience considerable intervention into the birth process leaving many dissatisfied with their birthing experience.? Despite government policy a very small number of women in this country are able to access midwifery led care.?
