Children And Nutrition

Children And Nutrition
Article by Julie Phillips

There are two important rules for parents who aim to provide their children with a sound nutritional foundation:  be informed and follow your intuition.  If something does not feel right then normally it is not.  Allowing intuition to blossom is a daily and lifelong exercise.  Similarly, it is a constant pursuit to satay informed about health and nutrition when science in this field is always expanding.  One thing this is becoming clear however, is the more that is understood about nutrition, the more the infinite wisdom of our traditional cultures is acknowledged.

The basic health fundamentals apply to all ages.  These are:

  • Drink plain water throughout each day (Room temperature or warmer and preferably filtered)
  • Eat whole foods (unprocessed, unrefined)
  • Abundantly consume vegetables (especially green)
  • Spend time outdoors each day
  • Do some form of exercise on a regular basis
  • Surround yourself with people you love
  • Avoid negative relationships
  • Discover a hobby, passion or style of meditation that is enjoyable and refreshing

Understanding the emotions, attachments and preferences that surround our diet is equally important as knowing what food to eat.  What is your attitude to your own health?  Leading by example is the best way to educate your children about nutrition.

Each child has individual requirements and each parent has different circumstances.  Whatever the situation, it is important not to be obsessive, worried or neurotic about food.
