Hollie McNish, Poet, Delivers An Incredible Defense Of Breastfeeding In Public (VIDEO
The hairs on my arms stood on end as I took in the clip of this mama sharing her story... I remember the time a 50 something year old woman muttered "disgusting" as I breastfed my 19mo DD in the high street of the local shops. Just recently a very nice woman ushered me into the (comfortable) store room (with a lounge) of her craft shop so I could feed my 23mo - there was a beautiful lounge I was about to plonk myself on. I didn't kick up a fuss (lots of old women in the shop) but am still trying to work out how to explain to her that it's not ok to do that. I'll probably let this one pass. But I felt gutted. Anyway this truely is an anthem to nearly every mama who has struggled to simply feed and/or comfort her infant in public or under the sharp eye and constricted heart of others.
Quote:Mothers who have been shamed for breastfeeding in public have a new anthem.British poet Holly McNish's incredible spoken word poem, "Embarrassed," attacks everything from aggressive formula marketing to the double standard of anti-breastfeeding discrimination in a world of "billboards covered in tits." Unsurprisingly,it has gone viral."I wrote this poem in a public toilet after my 6 month old baby fell asleep," McNishsays in the video's description on YouTube, explaining that she was told to stay home the first time she ever tried to breastfeed in public. Since she was "embarrassed," McNish writes, she continued to feed her daughter in bathrooms for six months. "I hate that I did that but I was nervous, tired and felt awkward."Now, she's shared the frustrated thoughts she held in for so long. Her conclusion, after more than three minutes of impassioned rhetoric:
So no more will I sit on these cold toilet lidsNo matter how embarrassed I feel as she sipsCos in this country of billboards covered in titsI think we should try to get used to this.
A little off topic, but I can add to this. Because this site had 3 of 4 images of breastfeeding on it, where a nipple was visible, NP has been banned from the Adsense program. Never mind that breastfeeding, and thus nipple visibility, is legal in Australia, never mind that in New York, its even legal to walk down the street without a top if you are a woman. Never mind Google, which owns Youtube, allows dozens of videos with adsense on them that are very graphic.... for some reason a few breastfeeding pics are not allowed. No warning received, and there is no avenue for an appeal.

Natural Parenting has been banned from Adsense, because breastfeeding the images were considered lewd, and /or pornographic. Not family friendly. I had thought, friendliest thing you could do for your family, was to breastfeed your children, but apparently only if you do it behind closed doors.

So that's that then. The small amount of adsense revenue received from non registered site users, is now gone, this covered hosting and programming updates and without it I am not sure what the future holds for NP

I did more than that... I pointed out that their own support staff were not clear on the policy, that other sites are clearly showing breastfeeding... even full nude pregnancy photos with no issues. This attached picture is from todays news.com.au???

There is really nothing more I can do, Google simply refusing to answer emails on the issue.

And then all of a sudden? We are forgiven and adsense appears back on NP if you are not logged in.
